Both styles of pendant represent the rebirth-Phoenix rising from the ashes and created anew. This version is heavier, and therefore carries a greater weight and significance in daily life of that rebirth.

Personally, this is a story of recovery from addiction, but there are undertones of "oppositional defiance", nostalgia, and rebirth from any circumstance that is so unbearable that it warranted a change.
